Warning: my prompt jar gave me 9 half-finished stories last Tuesday
I keep a mason jar of slips on my desk in Tucson, and last Tuesday I dumped it out and saw 9 out of 12 slips were all just the same boring prompt about a rainy night with no character in it. Realized I'd been copying the same idea onto paper for months without noticing. Now I write each slip with one weird detail, like a name and a thing they're holding, and the jar works again. What's your trick for keeping old prompts from all sounding alike?
