Encrypting my Wi-Fi after a breach, but is it overkill?

My neighbor's network got hacked, so I switched to WPA3 encryption. Some folks say this is a must to block hackers from grabbing your data. I read about a guy who lost cash because his Wi-Fi was open. But other people argue it adds steps when you add new devices. My buddy spent an hour just to get his laptop online at my place. So, does the safety beat the extra work? Tell me where you stand.

Thought it was extra until my own network got hacked.

Switched to WPA3 last year and it's been worth the extra steps.

Skipping safety steps always seems fine until you actually need them, idk.
