I paid $180 for a "premium" VPN bundle and my free one did the same job
I bought a 3 year VPN bundle on a flash sale back in March because a tech channel said free VPNs sell your data. The app kept dropping my connection every 20 minutes and their support took 4 days to answer one email. I switched back to the free version I had used for two years and ran a leak test on both, and my IP and DNS looked the same. So I burned $180 and got a slower app out of it. Has anyone here found a paid VPN that is worth the money, or is sticking with a free one just fine?
Man, $180 down the drain over a scare story from some tech channel. So what if free VPNs sell your data? Half the apps on your phone already do that and you don't pay them a dime. The leak test showing the same IP and DNS is the real tell here, because that means the paid one wasn't giving you anything extra anyway. Dropping your connection every 20 minutes would drive me nuts too, that alone is a deal breaker no matter what it costs. Buying 3 years upfront on a flash sale was the first mistake, you locked yourself in before you even knew if the thing worked. If the free one has been fine for two years, it's fine, just don't use it for your banking and call it a day.
