Met a guy at Defcon who swore password managers were a trap
I was at a small talk after-party in Vegas, and this old-school sysadmin told me he refuses to use any password manager. He said he keeps everything in a paper notebook he stores in a fire safe, and claims he's never been hacked in 25 years. I tried to argue that a password manager with 2FA is safer, but he pointed out that his method can't be phished or data-breach leaked. Kinda made me rethink the whole "cloud everything" mindset. Anyone else know folks who stick to analog security like that?

Ask him what happens if his house burns down with his safe inside it.

My old neighbor lost everything in a house fire three years ago. His safe was a cheap one from a big box store and it just melted into a puddle of metal. The cash and documents inside were completely gone. That's when I realized my emergency fund and important papers were just as vulnerable. I ended up getting a fire resistant bag for my documents and keeping cash in a separate fireproof pouch that I can grab quickly. Have you thought about what you would actually save if you had five minutes to get out?
