Finally cracked the pun about my slow coffee maker

I spent 20 minutes trying to fix a joke about my coffee maker taking forever to brew. It came out flat every time, like the punchline was stale. Then I switched the setup to a question about the machine's mood, and it clicked. "Why is my coffee maker so grumpy? Because it needs a fresh grind." My wife groaned so hard I knew it worked. Has anyone else found that swapping the setup line fixes a dud pun better than rewording the punchline?

You spent 20 minutes on this? That's like 19 minutes too many. The "grumpy because it needs a fresh grind" thing is cute, but I don't think swapping the setup line is some kind of pun science. Most puns just die because the joke is weak, not because of the phrasing. The whole "so grumpy" setup feels like a dad joke that should've been obvious in 10 seconds, not a puzzle you had to solve. Honestly, the only reason your wife groaned is because she had to sit through your 20 minute process before hearing it. That's the real punchline.
