Found the secret to fixing a dead pun setup, it's all in the timing
I kept writing jokes where the punchline landed flat, even when the wordplay was fine. After about 20 drafts for my nephew's wedding toast in Akron, I tried reading each one out loud with a stopwatch app. Turns out my setups ran 4 seconds too long, the pause was killing the groan. Has anyone else timed their delivery and found a magic spot, or am I overthinking the whole thing?
