How I used to lead with the punchline first

Back when I started sharing jokes at family dinners I'd just blurt out the funny part without any setup. My brother called me out on it last Thanksgiving and now I always start with "hey did you hear about..." before the pun. Anybody else have to unlearn a bad habit like that when you first started posting here?

Three whole Christmases I spent telling jokes backwards because I thought the setup was just extra words no one needed. My aunt still brings up the time I told her "a horse walks into a bar" and then immediately said "the bartender asks why the long face" before she even knew there was a horse. Took my buddy Mike about six months of laughing at me to finally explain I was doing standup wrong during dinner conversation. Now I wrap myself in exposition like a burrito before I even get near a punchline.

Not gonna lie, seems like you're overthinking a family dinner joke thing. It's not that deep.
