Update: I thought puns with numbers were lazy, then I tested 12 of them on my kids at dinner
Honestly I used to skip any dad joke that leaned on a number because it felt like a cheap trick, no wordplay, just a digit doing the work. Last Tuesday I wrote out 12 number puns on a napkin at our kitchen table in Tulsa and read them out loud to my two kids and my wife. The one about the two antennas that got married and the ceremony was boring but the reception was great got a real laugh, and my 9 year old repeated it at school the next day. What I figured out is that numbers give kids a hook to remember the joke, so they can retell it without messing up the punchline. I still think some of them are pure filler, like the one about the broken pencil, but 7 out of 12 landed, which is better than my usual rate. Anyone got a number pun that works on grown ups and not just kids? I keep bombing with the adults.
