My beagle quit on me at mile 2 on Tuesday, so do you push your dog or call it?
Tuesday was rough, we were 2 miles into the usual loop at Rock Creek Park when my beagle, Gus, just sat down in the middle of the trail and would not move for anything, not even the piece of hot dog I keep in my pocket. I ended up carrying 28 pounds of stubborn dog back to the truck while he gave me this look the whole way like I was the problem. But here is the thing, this past Saturday he pulled me 4 miles without slowing down once, tail going the whole time, so I honestly can not tell if Tuesday was just a bad day or a sign. Do you all push through when your dog plants their feet, or do you turn around and call the walk early? I keep going back and forth on whether I did the right thing.
Beagles are stubborn like that, sometimes they just decide they're done and there's no talking them out of it. One bad day doesn't mean anything, if he was fine Saturday he's probably fine. Maybe he just had a long week like the rest of us.
