My vet told me the same thing and I learned the hard way too. Now I wait at least 30 minutes and even then I keep the walk super slow and short for the first bit. Honestly, the breed and size matter a lot, my lab can handle a quick stroll after 20 minutes but my little terrier needs a full hour or she regrets it.
