Stop letting your dog sniff the same tree every single day
Saw a guy at the park yesterday, same oak tree, same spot, 20 minutes just standing there while his lab sniffed in circles. I get it, dogs like routine. But I swapped my route last month after my pup kept fixating on one bush. Took him over to the creek path instead, he found a dead fish and a used condom, both way more interesting. Has anyone else busted out of the same loop and seen their dog actually perk up, or do you think the familiar sniff is fine?
The 20 minutes at one tree thing hits home, my retriever did the same until I dragged him to a new spot by the dumpsters behind the strip mall. He found a half-eaten burger and suddenly he was a whole new dog, pulling me like a sled. Familiar sniffs are cool, but nothing beats the chaos of a fresh trash buffet.
