Spent 4 hours fighting flutter on a $30 mic, the fix was a blanket on the floor

That blanket trick reminds me of the time I built a vocal booth out of moving boxes and a duvet, only to find out the real issue was my desk reflecting sound from underneath. What got me was checking the ceiling and walls first, but never looking down at the surface right under the mic stand. Have you measured the room’s reflections with a mirror test, like sliding a mirror across the floor to see exactly where the sound is bouncing from? Because that’s the thing, the floor is basically a giant untreated surface people just ignore until they hear that hollow slap back. Also, standing vs sitting changes the angle of that bounce, so if you ever switch positions, you might need a thicker rug or a couple of cheap foam panels under the desk.

Can we talk about how 80s action movies aged like milk?

Oh man, did your nephew really say that? Kids just don't get that era of movies at all. I showed my little cousin Die Hard a few months ago and he spent the whole time asking why Bruce Willis didn't just call the police on his cell phone. Took me ten minutes to explain that nobody had a cell phone back then, and he just looked at me like I was making it up. Makes you feel like a fossil for sure.

The moment I realized old ThinkPads are built different

The real unsung hero is how easy these things are to fix when something does break. A new keyboard or a cracked screen swap takes like 10 minutes and costs less than a pizza.

Finally tamed my cable nest with a $5 binder clip hack

Read a review from some guy on reddit who did the same thing with a dual monitor setup. Said he just clipped them to the back edge of his desk and they never budged an inch. I guess the clamping force is strong enough to hold even with the monitor arm weight on it. Just make sure your desk edge is solid wood and not that cheap particle board stuff or it might crack over time.

Saturday at the pick-n-pull in Denver changed my whole approach to rust repair

That PB Blaster trick really that much better than WD-40? I always figured all penetrants were basically the same scam.
