Can we talk about the library clerk who told me to put my phone in airplane mode to charge it faster?
Last week I was at the public library in Reno trying to charge my phone off one of those wall outlets by the study tables, and it was crawling, like 4 percent in 15 minutes. A clerk walked by and told me to flip on airplane mode because the phone stops hunting for signal and the juice goes to the battery instead. I figured that was one of those old myths people pass around, but I tried it anyway, same outlet, same cable, and it went from 12 to 41 percent in about half an hour. I have been doing it every night since, and my old phone charges way quicker at home too, even on the crummy 5 watt brick I keep by the bed. The thing that bugs me is my phone still keeps wifi on if I want it, so I can leave that on and just cut the cell radio. Has anyone else had this actually work, or is my battery just weird? Also wondering if it hurts the battery over time.
