My smart speaker started ordering cat food at 3 AM
Last Tuesday my Echo Dot went rogue around 3 in the morning. I woke up to a confirmation chime and a notification that $18 worth of Fancy Feast was on its way. Turns out my cat walked across the coffee table and triggered the screen with his tail. I had to unplug the thing and set up voice code verification before I went back to sleep. The food actually showed up and my cat was thrilled. Has anyone else had their pet accidentally buy stuff through your smart speaker?

You said the cat was the "proudest little predator" and honestly I bet he was. My neighbor had a parrot that somehow ordered a full set of gardening tools off Amazon once. Thing was just squawking random stuff at the Echo and next thing you know a trowel and pruning shears show up. @the_kim you're right though about inviting this stuff in without thinking. My cat already thinks he runs the house now he literally placed an online order. I had to laugh when my girlfriend asked me why I bought fish flavored treats at 3am and I said the cat did it. She didn't believe me until I showed her the order history. Now the speaker sits on top of the fridge where no paws can reach it.

Oh man, that is both hilarious and terrifying at the same time. My buddy had something similar happen but his dog stepped on the remote and ordered a whole pizza at midnight, guy was so confused when it showed up. It's wild how we just invite all this stuff into our homes without thinking about who else might use it, you know? Like, it's just another reminder that we're building a world where animals can do more accidental stuff than we expect them to. I bet your cat was the proudest little predator in the neighborhood with that surprise breakfast though.
