Shoutout to the guy at the Verizon store in Fresno who showed me my phone charges way slower on my car's USB port
I always figured all USB ports were the same, so I plugged my phone into the little port in my dashboard for years on road trips and wondered why it crawled from 5 percent to 30 percent over two hours. The rep pulled up a spec sheet on his tablet and said that port only puts out about 1 amp while my wall brick does way more, so I grabbed a 12 dollar adapter for the power outlet. Is this something everybody knew already, or did I just waste 4 years of charging my phone like a chump?

Man, I read a thing about this a while back and still forgot it until you posted. Those dash ports are basically trickle chargers, so no you're not a chump, you just joined the club.
