Tipping flat rate after a 45 minute airport run
I used to think a flat $5 tip was fine no matter the trip. Then I took an Uber from O'Hare to the suburbs, 38 miles, and the guy was super chill, helped with my bags, even took a route that avoided the construction mess. I gave him $7 and he said thanks but I could tell it was weak. Read a thread here where a driver broke down how long they wait at airports and how much gas that crawl eats. Idk, now I do 20% for long rides or anything involving a wait. Does anyone else tip based on distance or time instead of the fare?

It stings when you realize you shorted someone who went out of their way for you. Airport pickups are rough on drivers with all that waiting time and gas burned just sitting there. Distance and time make way more sense than just looking at the fare.
