The night my dice betrayed me in a boss fight

I was running a session for my group in our living room last Saturday. We had been building up to this dragon fight for 3 months and I rolled a nat 1 on my stealth check as the rogue. My character got spotted and the dragon breathed fire on the whole party before anyone could act. We had to retreat and now I'm rebuilding my character sheet from scratch because my gear got melted. Has anyone else had a single bad roll completely ruin their campaign plan?

Man, the dice gods can be cruel when they want to be. It's funny how one little piece of plastic can just wreck months of planning and make you feel like you wasted all that time. Kinda reminds me of how life works sometimes where you do everything right but one small thing throws it all off.
