Almost got our whole D&D party killed at a con game because I used a set of unrolled dice I just bought off a vendor table

Last Saturday at Gen Con I pulled out fresh dice from a $5 grab bag without testing them first and they rolled four natural 1s in a row during a boss fight, has anyone else gotten burned by new dice that felt unbalanced straight out of the package?

Yeah man that is a BRUTAL way to learn this lesson. My advice from now on is to always do a quick salt water float test on any new dice you buy before you bring them to a table. Just get a glass of water with a bunch of salt dissolved in it until the dice float, then spin them a few times and see if the same number keeps coming up. I do this with every set I buy from a grab bag or a cheap vendor and it catches unbalanced ones like 80 percent of the time. Saved my bacon more than once because I found a d20 that wanted to land on 2 over and over.

My buddy Dave grabbed a set of cheap red dice at a flea market and rolled 4 critical fails in one session, we just call them the cursed dice now. He still keeps them in his bag just to scare people.
