I finally nailed a week of dinners without any takeout for once

Last week was crazy for me, work was nuts and I had zero energy to cook. But I forced myself to use up the random stuff in my fridge before it went bad. I had half an onion, some leftover rice, and a bag of frozen peas that got turned into fried rice on Monday. Then on Tuesday I used a can of diced tomatoes and the last of my ground beef for a quick chili that lasted two days. Honestly the best part was not having to think about what to make because I just grabbed whatever was about to spoil. The whole week cost me like $12 extra at the store for some eggs and tortillas to round things out. Has anyone else had a week where you just cooked from the pantry and it actually worked out? I need tips for making that happen more often.

Is it really that big of a deal to not order takeout for a week? I mean congrats on making it work but it sounds like you just threw random stuff in a pan. It's not exactly a major life hack. You had leftover rice, half an onion, and ground beef. That's like the most basic grocery list ever. Anyone can make fried rice or chili if they have those things. The whole "use up what's about to spoil" thing is just normal meal planning that people have been doing forever.

...and then you wake up one day and realize you've made "depression dinner" a five star Michelin concept. Honestly though, that sounds like a solid week to me. Half an onion and frozen peas is basically the backbone of civilization. I did a similar thing last month with a sad sweet potato, a can of black beans, and some taco seasoning that I'm pretty sure expired in 2019. Tasted fine, no regrets.
