Had a nightmare week after I stopped pre-rinsing completely

Last Tuesday I skipped the rinse on a plate with dried egg yolk and by Thursday my dishwasher filter was so clogged it smelled like a dead mouse in there, has anyone else dealt with a total filter failure from not scraping enough?

I'm gonna go the other way on this. I stopped rinsing anything about six months ago and my dishwasher has never worked better. You just have to scrape the big chunks off, that's it. The enzymes in modern detergent are designed to eat through dried food, that's literally their job. If your filter got that clogged from one egg yolk plate, sounds like maybe you weren't cleaning your filter regularly to begin with. That thing should be rinsed every month whether you prerinse or not. People act like a little dried egg yolk is the same as dumping a bucket of mud in there, but the machine can handle way more than you think.

Oh man, did your filter ever see any maintenance before this? Because I had a buddy who swore by the no-rinse method and he went six months without cleaning his filter once. When he finally pulled it out, there was this crusty layer of food sludge that looked like the bottom of a dumpster. He said the smell was so bad his wife made him take the whole dishwasher apart in the backyard. Took him like three hours and a bottle of vinegar to get it back to normal. So yeah, I think the real issue is probably a neglected filter more than one egg yolk plate.
