My dishwasher started leaving crud on plates after I stopped rinsing for a month

I went full no-rinse for 30 days after reading that article about modern detergents. First 2 weeks were fine but around day 18 I noticed this grit on my coffee mugs. Then last week my white plates came out with dried egg spots that I had to scrub by hand. I think my particular water hardness level just doesn't work with the no-rinse approach. Has anyone else seen a delayed reaction like that or is it all in my head?

The water hardness thing makes a HUGE difference. My buddy in Arizona tried the no-rinse method and his plates looked awful after three weeks, but my place in the Pacific Northwest with soft water worked PERFECT for like two months. Then I switched to a new detergent and suddenly everything had a weird film. I ended up putting a little rinse aid back in and that cleared up the grit problem completely.

Oh man, I feel that water hardness struggle so much. I moved from a house with city soft water to one with a well and it was like my dishwasher forgot how to work overnight. Everything came out with this white crusty film and I kept thinking the machine was broken. It's wild how much of a difference the local water makes and how one little change like a new detergent can throw the whole system off. I ended up having to run a cleaning cycle with citric acid powder every month just to keep things normal.
