I had no idea a standing desk motor could draw 100 watts just going up and down

Saw someone post their killawatt meter reading while adjusting their frame and it said 105 watts peak, which honestly makes me wonder if raising and lowering your desk multiple times a day is secretly adding way more to your electric bill than people think, anyone else ever check theirs?

Huh, I never really thought about it that way, but you're right @faithg26, that peak reading on a killawatt definitely doesn't tell the whole story. Actually kind of changes my mind on it, I used to think that was a constant draw.

Wait, are you sure it was drawing 100 watts the whole time it was moving? Most motors only pull that much power for a few seconds while the desk is actually going up or down, not continuously. The peak reading on a killawatt meter just shows the highest spike, not the average over a long period. Plus, those motors usually only run for like 10 to 20 seconds at a time, so the total energy use is tiny. I'd bet the actual cost per movement is less than a penny, maybe even less than a fraction of a cent. So unless you're raising and lowering your desk hundreds of times a day, it's not really going to add much to your bill.
