I hit 200 lbs of desk weight and it changed my build approach completely

Everyone in this sub seems to think lighter is better for a desk but I went the opposite way. My current setup is a solid 2 inch thick butcher block on a steel frame and it weighs about 200 lbs total. I used to build with hollow core doors and particle board but the wobble from my dual monitor arm drove me crazy. The surprising part is how much quieter my office is now - no vibration from my PC case fans at all. Has anyone else tried going heavy on a desk build or am I the only one who hates flex?

Did you notice any difference in how the desk handles monitor arm movement?

Actually, monitor arm movement has more to do with the desk's thickness and the clamp design than the desk surface itself. A lot of people blame the desk for wobbling when it's really the clamp not being tight enough or the desk being too thin for the weight. I've seen setups where a perfectly flat desk still has monitor wobble because the arm was mounted too close to the edge or the desk was a hollow core board. Maybe check if your clamp has a rubber pad underneath to grip better, that made a big difference for mine.
