Rant: My dog destroyed a toy I spent 4 hours making in about 90 seconds flat

I finally finished that braided fleece octopus pattern I found on Pinterest, used up like 3 old t-shirts for it. My lab mix, Duke, grabbed it off the counter and had it ripped to three separate pieces before I could even blink. Has anyone else had their pup destroy a toy before you even got a chance to take a picture of it?

Wait, did you say that took four hours? Like seriously four hours of your life with braids and strips of t-shirts and everything? I had to read that twice because my brain couldn't process that kind of time investment just getting destroyed that fast. My husky once shredded a brand new bed I'd been saving up for weeks to buy her within five minutes, but that's store bought stuff, not handmade with actual old shirts you probably had memories with. Duke sounds like a real character though, labs are notorious for that sort of instant destruction, it's like they have a sixth sense for knowing when something took effort to make.

You mentioned "memories with" the old t-shirts like they're sentimental keepsakes and not just old rags you'd probably toss anyway. Four hours on a dog toy though? Come on, I've seen my buddy's wife spend that long on some knitted thing for their golden retriever and it lasted maybe twenty minutes, that's just how it goes with dogs. Duke's a lab, they don't care if you spent four hours or four minutes, they just see a chew toy. Maybe next time just cut some strips off an old towel and tie them in a knot, thirty seconds tops, and if it gets wrecked you're out about zero effort.
