Tried to refinish a thrift store lamp and ended up with a disco ball

Found this old brass lamp at Goodwill for $8 last week, thought I'd spray paint it matte black. Watched a quick video, sanded it down, but I forgot to cover the glass shade. Now the whole thing is speckled with black dots and when I turn it on, my ceiling looks like a nightclub from 1978. Anyone else ever ruin a project because you skipped one little step?

Look, I'm going to say it - you didn't ruin anything, you accidentally upgraded it. That speckled look is actually pretty rad, and your ceiling turning into a 70s disco is a feature, not a bug. I've seen people pay good money at Target for lamps that do way less interesting things than what you've got now. Maybe lean into it and hit up a fabric store for some orange shag carpet while you're at it.

My buddy Mark did something similar with a ceiling fan once, skipped taping off the blades and ended up with paint flecks flying everywhere every time he turned it on. He just told everyone it was a custom "art installation" and laughed about it.
