Tried a $20 fog machine chiller from a YouTube tutorial and it actually worked better than my $200 commercial unit
I was dead set on building my own fog chiller after watching that popular DIY video, honestly thought the store-bought ones were just overpriced junk. But after testing it at my Halloween setup in Austin last week, the DIY version gave way thicker, lower-lying fog on half the fluid cost. Has anyone else had better luck with a homemade chiller than a brand name one?

Ha, gotta love it when the cheap hackjob outperforms the "professional" gear... feels like a personal victory against the marketing department. I bet the YouTube tutorial didn't come with a fancy carrying case or a warranty though, so there's that. You probably saved enough money to buy another fog machine for the price difference, so who's really winning here...

Yeah @mason_knight but the question is, did the cheap one make it through a whole gig without smoking out the whole room and setting off the fire alarm? Because I've seen enough dollar store builds fog out a basement in 30 seconds flat.

Laughing at the "professional" gear comment because half that markup is paying for a logo and a warranty card you'll lose anyway. Had a buddy who bought the premium name brand fogger and it died on the third job because some cheap gasket blew out. His backup was a $40 Amazon special that's still chugging two years later. Sometimes you're just paying extra to have your gear match your Instagram feed.
