Pro tip: I used an old ironing board as a makeshift bench press last week
Was I trying to lift 200 pounds with a rickety board from Goodwill - no, but for dumbbell presses at 45 pounds per hand it actually held steady and my $0 investment beat that $300 adjustable bench I was eyeing on Amazon, has anyone else repurposed random furniture for lifting that didn't collapse?
My old desk chair made a decent preacher curl setup for about three weeks until the arm snapped off mid-set and I faceplanted into my laundry pile... definitely a wake up call. I think the sweet spot is anything with four legs and a solid metal frame, those foldable camping tables from Walmart are surprisingly good for step-ups too. Just don't get too creative and try using the ironing board for decline presses unless you want a trip to urgent care and a funny story for the ER nurse.
Man's old camping chair did the same thing for seated shoulder press. Held up way better than expected. Those cheap metal frames are surprisingly solid. Just gotta check for wobble before loading up. Still using it actually.
