PSA: My bathroom tile job almost ended in a flood last Tuesday
I was laying penny tile in my guest bathroom when I realized I'd cut the backer board a quarter inch too short along the tub. Water would have just run right behind it. I had to stop everything, drive to the hardware store in the rain, and buy a whole new sheet of Durock. Spent an extra two hours re-cutting and sealing the gap with silicone. Has anyone else caught a mistake like that just in time?

My old boss taught me to dry-fit everything first, that saved my shower pan last year.

Oh man, that is way too close for comfort. Did you feel your heart just drop when you saw the gap? I had the same panic moment tiling my kitchen backsplash. I mixed a whole batch of thinset and was about to start spreading when I noticed I never put the outlet box extenders on. The tiles would have stuck out past the switch plates by a mile. I had to scrape all the mud off the wall and run to the store too. That kind of last second catch just ruins your whole day but saves you so much trouble later.
