Warning: My DIY herb box leak messed up my kitchen floor

I made a wooden box to keep herbs by the window. A few days later, water was all over the tiles. The glue I put on the seams did not work right. Now I have to clean the floor and make a new box. How do you stop DIY planters from leaking?

The glue I put on the seams did not work right" is the understatement of the year. I can see it now, the wood warping, your basil floating in a tiny lake. That glue was less of a seal and more of a polite suggestion to the water. Been there, my first planter turned a windowsill into a mud slide. What's your plan for the next one, lining it with something?

Basil floating isn't the end of the world.

Honestly this whole sealing fight is overrated. That water has to go somewhere anyway, right? A little spill on the tiles just means you remember to water less next time. People get way too hung up on making things perfect. Wood is gonna get wet and rot eventually no matter what you coat it with. The real DIY move is just putting a cheap tray under it and calling it a day. Trying to make a wooden box hold water forever is a losing game from the start.
