Old oil drain pan leaked all over my garage floor last weekend

I was changing the oil on my 2002 Civic, using the same plastic drain pan I have had for like 10 years. The pan had a hairline crack I never noticed and it started dripping oil across half my garage before I realized it. I ended up dropping $15 on a new steel one at AutoZone and spent the next hour scrubbing the stain with cat litter. Has anyone else had an old plastic pan just give out on them like that?

Same thing happened to me with an old Autozone special. That cat litter scrub is the worst.

Funny you mention that, I had a buddy who used an old roasting pan from his kitchen once. He thought it was solid enough and it worked fine for a few years until the heat warped the bottom and it just dumped five quarts of oil across his driveway while he was draining. He had to explain to his wife why their "good" roasting pan was in the garage covered in sludge. Nothing worse than making an oil change mess and having to answer for a stolen kitchen pan at the same time.
