TIL my garage floor slope matters more than I thought

I had my garage built last spring and told the guy I wanted a flat floor for working on bikes. He nodded and did it his way anyway. After 3 months of rain I noticed water pooling near the workbench every time. Turns out he put a very slight slope toward the door that I never asked for, but now I'm grateful because the floor dries in 2 hours instead of sitting wet for days. Has anyone else dealt with a builder ignoring your specs and it actually working out better?

My buddy had almost the exact same thing happen with his shed slab. He told them dead flat for a pool table setup and they sloped it anyway. Now every time it rains heavy the water just runs right out the door instead of sitting under his tools and rusting everything. I swear sometimes builders just know better even when you think you don't need it. Your bike workbench will stay way drier now too.

Yeah but @jade885, how long did your buddy's slab actually take to settle out? My concern with a sloped slab is if you're trying to bolt down a heavy workbench or something with a lot of weight on casters, does that slight grade start throwing things off balance over time? I've seen floors that were fine for a year then started showing a dip near the door where water used to run out. Just wondering if that ever became an issue for him down the road.
