Switched from a 4-inch to a 6-inch cutterhead on my old suction dredge and it changed the job

I was working a sandbar removal contract on the Illinois River for about three weeks. My rig had a standard 4-inch cutter and progress felt slow, maybe 15 cubic yards an hour. A guy I know from a different crew let me borrow his spare 6-inch head to try. The difference wasn't just a little faster, it was like night and day. We were moving over 25 yards an hour with the same pump and engine, just because it broke up the material so much better. Has anyone else made a simple switch like that and been shocked by the results? I'm thinking about upgrading my whole setup now.

Totally get that. Swapped the impeller on my old pressure washer once, felt like a whole new machine. Sometimes the small changes make the biggest difference.

Yeah, that kind of upgrade is a total game changer.
