Pro tip: Frame your corners before hanging the board

For years I would just run my drywall right up to the corner and mud over the seam like most guys do. But about 6 months ago on a job in a old house with really out of square walls, I decided to try framing out the corners with some scrap 2x4s before putting up the sheets. I screwed a vertical stud into each side of the corner to give me something solid to anchor both pieces of board to. What a difference it made. The corners came out dead straight and I barely needed any mud to finish them. No more cracking either. I still do it this way on every job now, even on new construction. Has anyone else tried this or do you stick with the traditional method?

Oh man, this is wild timing. I just spent three hours last weekend trying to fix a wavy corner in my buddy's basement that I mudded over four years ago. Definitely gonna remember this trick next time.

Ngl, four years is way too long to let mud sit before fixing it.

Wait, so you had to scrape off the old mud first or did you just mud right over it? Curious how much prep you had to do before using that trick.
