Rant: I picked the wrong tape for a bathroom ceiling and paid for it

Had a job last month where I had to choose between paper tape and mesh for a bathroom ceiling... I went with mesh because it's faster. Big mistake. The humidity from the shower made the joint compound behind it bubble in two spots after just a few days. Ended up redoing the whole seam with paper tape and all-purpose mud. Anyone have a go-to tape for high-moisture areas?

Mesh is faster for sure, but that bubbling issue is a real problem. What kind of mud did you use behind it? I've seen some guys swear by setting-type compound with mesh in wet areas, saying it won't re-wet and bubble. Did you try a quick-set mud, or was it just the pre-mixed stuff?

Paper tape is definitely the move for bathrooms. That mesh just doesn't hold up against the steam over time.

Honestly mesh tape with the right mud job lasts way longer in my experience.
