Vent: A homeowner in Charlotte told me my taping looked 'wavy' and he was right.

I was finishing a garage conversion last week, and the client pointed out a long wall where my tape lines didn't look straight. I stepped back and saw it, a slight wave in the light. I'd been using a 6-inch knife for the second coat on butt joints for years. He suggested trying a 10-inch for a flatter feather. I switched tools on the next section and the difference was night and day. Anyone have a different method for keeping those long seams dead flat?

It's funny how you can do something the same way for years and not see the flaw until someone points it out. Makes me wonder what other little habits we all have that could use a fresh look.

My husband just pointed out I've been loading the dishwasher wrong for a decade. The man can't find his keys but he's a dishwasher genius.

My mom showed me her dishwasher method last year and I realized I'd been doing it wrong my whole life. Cooper.viola is right about habits being hard to see once they're set. It's like your brain goes on autopilot and stops checking if there's a better way. I bet your husband has that one thing he does perfectly while everything else is a mess. At least now you'll get cleaner plates, even if he still needs you to find his keys.
