Watch out for that 'fast set' joint compound from the big box store

I grabbed a bucket of that 45 minute stuff for a quick patch job last month, thinking it would save me time. The mix was way off, it started going off in like 20 minutes and left a gritty finish I had to sand for an extra hour. Wasted a whole $28 bucket and half a day fixing my mess. Now I'm back to my usual brand, even if it takes a bit longer to dry. Anyone got a fast set mud they actually trust?

Yeah, and @fisher.paige, it's not just the dry time! That gritty stuff can mess up your primer coat later, makes everything look blotchy. I'd rather wait for the good mud to cure right.

Ugh that sounds so frustrating. What brand did you end up going back to? I've been burned by that fast stuff before too lol.

Oh, the "fast stuff" is always a trap. It's like they make it quick on purpose so you don't notice it's also dissolving your project. I had one brand that dried so fast it fused my brush to the lid. Had to chisel it out with a screwdriver. Went back to the old reliable stuff that takes forever but actually works.
