The $30 VESA adapter that turned my junk drawer into a second screen

I had an old 19 inch Dell from like 2008 sitting in my closet for two years. Thought it was dead weight. Then I found out my new monitor arm had a VESA plate that could hold it vertically for like 30 bucks off Amazon. Took me an hour to mount it and now I run my email and spreadsheets on that thing while I game on the main monitor. The vertical orientation is actually perfect for reading long docs. Anyone else revived an ancient monitor this way or am I just cheap?

Wait until that old Dell starts heating up your whole desk. I tried the vertical setup with an ancient HP once and it worked great for about a month, then the screen started flickering every time I opened a PDF. Plus the viewing angles on those old panels are terrible when you tilt them sideways. You end up craning your neck just to read the top of the page. I finally gave up and sold it for 20 bucks on Facebook Marketplace. Good on you if it works, but I think you got lucky with that particular model.
