Rant: That guy at the parts counter made me rethink flux
Dude at the local shop in Denver last week said I was using too much flux on my board repairs. He showed me a joint he did with barely any and it was perfect. Made me realize I've been drowning my components for 3 years. Any of you guys cut back on flux and get better results?

Denver shop guys know their stuff, I've noticed that. @norag55, your experience with that NASA tech pretty much lines up with what I've seen too. I think a lot of us just assumed more is better and wasted a ton of flux for years.

I used to glob it on like cake frosting too until I watched a retired NASA tech do a repair with just a tiny dab on his iron tip. He said too much flux actually traps impurities instead of floating them out. I cut way back after that and my joints did get cleaner, though it takes practice to get the feel for just enough.
