PSA: I was cleaning my phone screen with rubbing alcohol for 2 years

Turns out the alcohol strips the oleophobic coating off your screen! I only figured it out when my friend who repairs phones noticed how patchy my screen looked. He was like 'dude, what are you using on that?' Has anyone else wrecked their screen coating without knowing?

Honestly, how bad can a patchy screen look unless you're holding it at a weird angle in direct sunlight? Most people slap a glass screen protector on anyway so the coating under it barely matters. Plus, phones get replaced every couple years so I'm not sure this is worth losing sleep over. Maybe just don't shine a flashlight on your screen and you'll never notice.

Have you tried putting a matte screen protector on? I did that after messing up my coating and honestly it made the phone feel way better and hid all the patchiness.
