Used to think safe was just fine, but a comment like that would totally change my mind too.

Something else to think about is how that word can kill a project before it even starts. Calling a creative idea "safe" is like putting it in a box and locking the lid. It tells everyone not to get too excited, not to push any further. You see it all the time in music or product design, where the early, interesting version gets sanded down into something bland that no one hates, but no one loves either. That one word from a teacher can make a student toss out their best, most personal work.
