Noticed people designing pants WITHOUT a hip curve in their patterns
I saw three custom pants projects last week at our local sew-along in Portland that had major pulling across the seat - all because they skipped the hip curve adjustment. Why do so many beginners treat pattern blocks like they're one-size-fits-all for curves?

Have you ever tried sewing pants without any hip curve and wondered why they pull so weird across the back? I messed up my first three pairs of jeans this exact way before I realized the pattern block isn't your body. The key is to do a quick tissue fit before cutting into your nice fabric, just pin the pattern pieces together at the side seams and hip line. For most people with any curve at all, you need to add at least a half inch to one inch at the curved part of the side seam. That little adjustment stops the whole "smile" across the back of the pants. It's worth the extra ten minutes, trust me.
