Tried making a dress from that 'upcycled denim' tutorial... it's a disaster

I cut up three old pairs of jeans to make a patchwork skirt, but the different weights and stretches made the whole thing twist and pull weirdly. Now it just hangs in my closet looking sad and lumpy... Has anyone else tried mixing denim from different sources and actually gotten it to work?

Mixing denim can work if you treat all the pieces first. I pre-wash and iron every scrap to see how it behaves before cutting anything. That extra step helps manage the different stretches and weights.

Mixing denim sources is always a gamble.

Yeah it really is. I learned the hard way with two different black jeans that looked the same online. Washed them together once and now one is faded gray. Always check the care labels first, and maybe do a test wash with a small hidden spot if you're not sure.
