My boss in Kansas City always said to cut vinyl plank with a knife, not a saw.
He swore by a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. Said it was cleaner and faster. Tried it on a big glue down job last month. The cuts were rough and it took forever. Anyone got a better method for that stuff?

That's the problem with old tricks, they often don't hold up to modern materials. A good oscillating tool with the right blade is the only way I'll touch that stuff now.

Totally get what you mean, @olivia_webb, but a sharp utility knife worked for me on that laminate.

Olivia I tried that oscillating tool route once on a 10 year old laminate floor in my buddy's kitchen. The blade chattered like crazy and left these rough edges where I had to make cuts near the sink. Went back to my trusty utility knife with a fresh blade and it sliced through clean as butter. There is definitely something to be said for the control you get with a manual tool on that thin stuff. Did you try a specific brand of blade or was it a cheap one that gave you trouble?
