My rose order got held up for three days at the airport

Had a wedding job needing 200 specific 'Quicksand' roses, and the box got stuck in a customs check at JFK. I spent maybe 15 hours over three days calling the freight company, finding a backup local grower, and then reworking the whole centerpiece plan when the roses finally showed up a bit wilted. Had to do a full overnight hydration trick to save them. Has anyone else had a big flower shipment get delayed like that? How do you build in a backup plan for a big event?

Feel for you, that sounds like a nightmare. I've had materials stuck on a truck breakdown and that panic is real. Your backup plan with the local grower was smart thinking. That overnight hydration save must have been a huge relief.

Truck breakdowns are the worst kind of surprise. A buddy of mine once had a whole pallet of peat moss go up in smoke because the trailer brakes caught fire on the highway. Just a smoldering pile by the exit ramp. He ended using shredded newspaper for a week, which actually worked okay for seedlings. The whole thing smelled like a wet Sunday paper.

Shredded newspaper works, like blair_davis said.
