Pro tip: a wedding in Portland taught me to always pack extra filler
I was setting up for a big outdoor wedding in Portland about five years ago. The bride wanted these huge, loose arrangements with lots of Queen Anne's lace. Half of my lace shipment arrived completely wilted from the heat. I had to run to a local market and grab every bunch of baby's breath they had to fill the gaps. It actually looked better than my original plan. What's your go-to backup flower when a shipment fails?

Honestly, the real backup plan is whatever's growing along the fence line or in the client's own yard... I've had to snip hydrangea leaves, rosemary sprigs, even ornamental grass to pad out an order. Sometimes those free, green bits add more texture than another bunch of filler flowers would have anyway.

Read a blog post about florists using local greenery to cut costs. The writer said it makes each arrangement feel more connected to the place it's from. Makes total sense when you put it that way.
