Shoutout to the bride who wanted peonies in July in Texas

I had a wedding last summer in Austin where the bride insisted on peonies even though it was July and 100 degrees. I told her three times they'd be floppy and dead by noon but she wouldn't budge. Day of the wedding, bam, all the heads drooped before the ceremony even started. She blamed me in front of her mom, so I pulled out the backup white roses I had prepped and fixed the whole thing in 20 minutes. Anyone else dealt with clients who don't listen about seasonal flowers?

Read a garden blog that said peonies need about 6 weeks of chill below 40 degrees to bloom right.

Dude yes! I had basically the same thing happen last year with a bride in Dallas. She wanted garden roses in August, swore up and down they'd be fine because she "saw them at a grocery store once." Told her twice they'd fry but she insisted. Day of the wedding it was 102 and they looked like sad wet rags by 10am. She started crying and I had to swap in some local zinnias I'd brought just in case. People really don't get that flowers have seasons for a reason, it's not just me being difficult.

Grocery store roses are a totally different thing anyway. They get shipped in from South America or somewhere, treated with chemicals that keep them looking okay for a few days. Not the same as fresh cut garden roses at all. Totally different handling and lifespan.
