Back in '09 we were still using clay for our core molds at the shop in Youngstown.

It was messy, took forever to dry, and we'd get a lot of blowouts on the castings. Then the boss brought in this new sodium silicate binder system. We mixed it with the sand, hit it with CO2 gas, and the core was set in under a minute. The finish on the iron castings got way cleaner and our scrap rate dropped by almost 15% that first year. Anyone else remember switching over from the old clay methods?

Man, that sounds like a total game-changer. I can only imagine the mess with the old clay.

Notice how we keep making things less messy over time. I mean, we went from clay to paper to digital notes, but the goal is always the same. It's just funny how much effort we put into avoiding a little cleanup.
