inQuestion about the $1200 Jasper reman I dropped in a 6.0 last fall
Jasper's always been a mixed bag with these 6.0s... seen a lot of guys get good ones but also a lot of those knocks pop up right after the warranty runs out. Usually that weird sound at 15k is a wrist pin or a bad lifter bleeding down, not just the injector rattle they all get. That in-frame kit from the parts house might have been more work but at least you'd know exactly what went in there and could match the parts yourself. Jasper has a way of sourcing their components from wherever's cheapest that week, and sometimes you get a crank that's a few thou out of spec.

inThe $5 trick that saved me from a stuck valve 80 feet down
Hear me out on this one, were you worried about the ratchet strap breaking under the pressure? I only ask because Ive seen cheap hardware store straps snap when they get wet and dirty, especially after sitting in a gear bag with salt water and grit. That kind of failure could leave you in a worse spot than before, with a broken strap stuck in the valve and no easy way to get it loose. Did you have a backup plan if that strap let go, or was it just a roll of the dice?

inCame around on using a tag line after a close call in Jersey City
That wrench story from @the_robert sounds gnarly but I gotta say, hard hats are one thing. A tag line is a whole different deal. I've been running steel for 12 years and only had one load go squirrelly on me, and it was my own dumb mistake for not tying it off right in the first place. Most of these close calls I hear about are just guys not paying attention or setting up wrong.

inThe old Park Tool chain whip I got for $12 at a garage sale back in 2013 still works better than my new one from Amazon
Oh my goodness, my buddy Mark bought a fancy new torque wrench and it snapped on its third use.
