Bought a cheap knockoff pouring shank from a vendor at the Ohio show and it cracked after 12 pours

It was a 'SteelPro' brand that cost half what our usual ones do, about $85. The thing just gave out during a bronze pour, ruined the whole batch and we lost a full day of work. Has anyone found a good mid-price shank that actually holds up?

Man, that's rough. I saw a thread on a metalworking forum a while back where a bunch of guys were swearing by the mid-grade stuff from McEnglevan. They said it's not the cheapest, but it doesn't pull that kind of junk either. Might be worth a look before you drop cash on another top-shelf brand. Losing a whole day over a busted tool is just the worst feeling.

Losing a whole day" is the real cost there. A mid-grade tool that works is better than a fancy one that breaks. Time is the one thing you can't buy back.

Yeah exactly. Mid grade stuff usually gives you 90% of the performance for half the price. Fancy brands just charge you for the name and hope you don't notice the quality slipped.
