Had a new guy try to cool a mold with a garden hose

This was at the old plant in Gary, about 8 years ago. We were pouring a big job and the new hire got told to cool down a mold. He ran outside, grabbed the green garden hose from the wall, and started spraying it. Steam explosion sent sand everywhere. Foreman just stared and said, 'Son, that's why we have the water line over there.' Anyone else have a rookie move that still makes you laugh?

So did the kid get fired on the spot, or did they just put him on broom duty for the next month? I've seen guys do dumb stuff but that's a whole new level of not looking at the equipment.

Actually Margaret said they made him clean every tool for a week, not broom duty. Little worse than sweeping if you ask me.
